Please visit my Myspace page for current shows and updates. I'm trying to figure out what to do with this website! Thanks for visiting.
September 14, 2007
Home again, home again. I'm back after a summer of folk festivals with
Dyad
and travelling in North Carolina (recording interviews etc. for an
OutFront documentary).
But not for long.
Next week I'm going to San Francisco to record some vox with
The Crooked Jades,
and then, in October, I'm in a van touring as part of
Octoberman, on the road
with The Mohawk Lodge
(I'm trying not to think of myself as
Smurfette).
So I think it's the year of being in a million bands.
I hope someday to get back to my own songs, but I'm learning a lot from this right now.
For more regular updates and ramblings, visit
my Myspace page.
June 13, 2007
Things are keeping busy over this way. I'll be starting my new "Abramson Singers" EP with Brodie Smith at the end of the month. It'll be full of vocal goodness, and a few special guests. Expect lots of harmony and experimentation.
I'll be on the road this summer with Dyad playing folk festivals. All details are in the events section.
Also, if you pick up the new Montag album out on Carpark Records, you'll find I guested on the track "Hands off Creature." I'll also be touring across Canada as a member of Octoberman and Mohawk Lodge this fall.
February 22, 2007
It's been a year of plentiful projects. Most obviously, Dyad, my old-time trio in which I sing and play guitar, takes up most of my time, but please take the time to check out the other projects in which I am a guest vocalist: Octoberman, Montag
and A Pale Blue. All three have amazing albums coming out this year.
December 21, 2006
Acoustic house show in Vancouver on December 27th. It's with Roger Dean Young and the Tin Cup, at 6pm at the Blue House, which is close to Commercial Drive and 1st Ave. Open to anyone, so please call 604 254 2066 to reserve a place.
November 29, 2006
I'm enjoying the snow in Vancouver. I don't think it's snowed in November since 1985. Not that I really remember that far back.
Anyway, lately I've been playing a lot of Old-time music with Dyad, and otherwise keeping busy rehearsing with my new band for my solo L. Abramson project -- no longer solo! I'd like to welcome Patrick Metzger and Tyson Naylor to the band. More rad additions to come. I'm hoping my shows in the new year will feature a full band.
Also, I've started recording demos for my new record, which will probably be mostly vocals. Its working title is, L. Abramson presents: The Abramson Singers. Lots of layered harmonies, a choir of one. You can hear a sample demo on my myspace page. I will try to change them up every once and awhile.

August 23, 2006
It's been a short summer. Probably because I played a lot of music and collaborated a lot. Along with Dyad stuff (our CD release show is Sept. 16 at St. James -- check events), I also sang on Octoberman's new record, and joined another project called "a pale blue," which you can check out here, and on Sept. 1 at Pat's Pub. Otherwise, still planning on going out east in Oct/Nov (TBA), to do some solo shows. Time to unpack my scarf collection.
July 12, 2006
It's been a bit hectic lately getting ready with my band, Dyad, to play the Vancouver Folk Festival this weekend. Our new CD will be available there, but after that you'll have to wait until August. Otherwise, I'll be heading up to Wells, BC in August for the music festival there, which you can check out at the Artswells Festival link HERE. I'm also hoping to make it up to the Yukon and make friends with some grizzlies. After that, it's a tour out east in October!
June 28, 2006
Late show announcement: A solo show opening for Damanta in Bowen Island this Friday (June 30th). And if you're in Vancouver, don't forget the show with Corbin Murdoch at Cafe Deux Soleils this Saturday.
June 15, 2006
There's a review of Bedroom/City in this week's Georgia Straight. You can find it HERE and there are links to other reviews on the Press page. Go buy your copy of the CD now. It's definitely available in Redcat, Zulu and Highlife in Vancouver, and we've been told it's also in HMV. Alternatively, you can get it from iTunes or buy it online from CD BABY or Divine ... or all of the above.
June 12, 2006
Dyad island tour dates (June 23 to 27) are now up on the Events page.
May 23, 2006
I'm finally recovered from touring, so next month I'll be at it again, but with Dyad, my old-time band, which you can check out HERE. Dates in June will be posted soon, and then it's the Vancouver Folk Festival, which we are thrilled to be playing. Otherwise, a solo jaunt to Portland in August is in the works, and a few assorted local shows. And for goodness sake, sign my guestbook already!
April 10th, 2006
So I'm back now after my epic tour with Bob Wiseman. Ask me about it later. Actually, it was great, but I'm a bit of a wuss (you can ask
Bob about that). On the agenda is some shows with my old-time band, Dyad, quitting coffee, and writing some new songs. Don't forget to sign my guestbook and join the mailing list. Also, book me for a bedroom show! (I will play you songs in your bedroom for a small fee.)
oh yeah, i forgot:
I've got a song on the latest Killbeat podcast.
February 10th, 2006
So here we go, winter's almost over (at least in Vancouver the flowers are coming out), and I'm getting ready to go on tour with Bob Wiseman in March! Check events for tour dates, and tell everyone you know in different cities to come and say hi. Also, my site's getting regular updates now, so keep checking back, and leave me a note in my new guestbook, which you can find in the contact section! And sign up for my mailing list while you're there.
A bunch of cool things happened this month: I got played on CBC 3 and CBC 1, I got a nice review at i (heart) music, which you can read HERE , I got back from playing out east and have some new friends in Waterloo, and my band Dyad is set to release a new album and play festivals this summer.
If you're in Vancouver, check out my last show before my tour at the Railway Club on Feb. 21 opening for Gregory Hoskins. And oh yeah, my album Bedroom/City will be released in stores across Canada on March 7! If you can't wait, you can buy it HERE now!
January, 2006
Lots of news: CD release, Ontario and BC shows, a tour (an exciting one), website problems (sorry!)... Here goes. Bedroom / City is now available online as well as at shows, and will get full Canadian distribution in March. Click HERE to buy online. Next shows are in Toronto and Kingston towards the end of January, and in Abbotsford in mid-February. Then, it's a tour across Western Canada and down the US West Coast with great Bob Wiseman plus his film projector! Click the Events button to the left for show and tour details. Finally, the website: Sorry it went inactive for a time. It's back now, and will be updated regularly from now. (We hope.) And just in case you think there's some news you're missing here, check the MySpace page www.myspace.com/leahabramson or the Copperspine Records www.copperspinerecords.com events listing. The webmaster at Copperspine is just phenomenal, and has show dates up even before the artists know about them! (OK. OK. You caught me! This is the Copperspine webmaster doing double-duty on Leah's site in her absence. Look out for a proper update from Leah very soon ... and daily (!?) from then on.)
September, 2005
Happy fall, everyone. My new album Bedroom / City is now available at shows, with distribution coming
in January. Album versions of a few songs are also available for download on this site. I have a few
shows coming up, including a tour to Winnipeg (check events). Also, me and Roger Dean Young have been
interviewed for the first ever Copperspine podcast, which you can check out
HERE.
Thanks to Arliss and Emily for this! And come and check out my CD launch party on September 30 at the Butchershop.
My album Bedroom / City is now being mastered. It has nine songs on it.
Oh boy. Next week I'm going to California to go camping and forget about the music industry.
Then I'll come back and manufacture the darn thing and release it in October. This is the plan.

This month I'm finishing my record! All of you nice people
who pre-bought CD's last year will be happy to know that you will get yours before
the official release date (which will probably be in early October, or late September
if I'm feeling lucky). The artwork is looking really good so far, thanks to my friend
Matt Shane, who also did the drawings for this website.
In other news, my
friend Lara and I have started a band called "Loan." We play Sloan songs exclusively,
so I suppose you could call Loan a cover band. Our first show is this Saturday at our
JamSpace at 111 E. Pender St. Put on your hideous glasses and check events for details.
March 21, 2005
I'm back home in one piece, though I could rip a
Jetsgo airplane in half with my bare hands- those bastards! Other than
that, my trip was excellent and I met some very nice people and played
some very fun shows.
This week I'm recording vocals and bass
over in Surrey, which means we'll have most of the tracking done very soon.
We'll be mixing when Bryan Seely gets home in May (he's going on the road with
Strapping Young Lad), and then I might jog down to San Fran for a little
touring vacation. I will play in your living room if you want me to.
March 10
Please note a venue change in Montreal, check the events section for details.
Feb 27
Welcome to my revamped, x-tra special, ego-tastical,
monolithically spectacular new website. I'll soon be out east
from March 1 to 14 to play shows, a showcase at Canadian Music Week,
and do lots of futon napping at friends' houses in Montreal.
On this
site you can listen to some new demos from my upcoming album, Bedroom City, and
in a short while, sign my guestbook and leave me crude messages.
Thanks for stopping by.

The Unauthorized Biography of Leah Abramson
Experimenting with a rotating cast of jazz stars on keyboards, accordion, bass, and drums, Leah crafts her unusual indie folk-noir in East Vancouver, sings with her hollow-body electric guitar, and attempts to not to take herself too seriously. When she is not working, writing, touring or performing solo and with her old-time band, Dyad, she is watching movies in her bedroom and trying not to be a hermit. Leah released her first full-length album, Bedroom/City, in 2005/06 on Copperspine Records, and it is available to buy online at Divine Industries.com or download from iTunes Canada.
